Android is an open source operating system (OS) for mobile devices. I’ve been a big fan since I started using it a few months ago, I seriously doubt that I could go back to iOS. Android is usually installed on smartphones and tablets, though it has been ported to various other platforms, including X86. Today I’m going to show you how to install Android on PC.
Download Android For PC
- The first thing that you should do is download the Android operating system. You can get the modified version that you need from the Android x86 website. You’ll notice from the picture below that there’s a few to choose from. If you’re using a laptop or notebook, choose the Asus Laptops/Notebooks ISO. If you’re using a desktop PC, or if the Laptops/Notebooks ISO doesn’t work, download the Asus EEE PC ISO. Once it has finished downloading, put it somewhere that is easy to find.
How To Install Android On PC
The next step is the installation. There’s a couple of ways to install Android on PC, the first one I’m going to show you is by using a virtual machine called VMware. It’s ideal if you just want to try Android on your PC, and it’s quick and easy.VMware allows you to install and run numerous different operating systems (OS) on top of your current OS without any potential changes to your current OS configuration. If you would prefer to install Android permanently on a physical hard drive, USB HDD, or USB Memory Card, you can skip steps 1, 2, and 3, and proceed to the next part.
Step 1:
- First, download VMware Player, then install it the same way as you would with any other software, following the on-screen instructions. Once it’s installed, you will see a welcome screen.
Step 2:
- On the welcome screen, click ‘Create New Virtual Machine’, then click the ‘Browse’ button and select the Android ISO file that you downloaded in step 1, as shown in the picture below.
Step 3:
- On the following screen, name the VM whatever you want. Click next, then again to use the default disk space. After you click finish, the virtual machine will power on and you’ll see a setup screen the picture below. Choose Install Android-x86 to hard disk.
Step 4:
- Select Create/Modify Partitions
- Select New
- Choose Primary – then press enter to use the default disk size
- Navigate to Bootable and press Enter on your keyboard.
Now select Write, then type yes and press enter to confirm. The warning message is irrelevant since VMware is only writing to a virtual disk.
- Select quit, then choose the partition labelled sda1.
- Format as FAT32 when asked and proceed past the confirmation message.
That’s how to install Android on PC using a VM. Read on to find out how to install Android on a physical hard disk or USB memory stick.
How To Install Android On PC Hard-Drive or USB Memory Stick
Installing Android on a PC’s Hard-Drive, or on a USB memory stick, is very similar to the steps above, but first you must download and install UNetbootin. For the purpose of this guide, we’ll assume that you’re installing it on a USB memory stick.
- Insert your usb memory stick and run UNetbootin. After selecting the target disk, UNetbootin will extract Android from the ISO file and install it on your disk. It might take few minutes.
How To Boot Into Android
Now that Android is installed on your USB stick or hard-drive, you just need to boot from that disk.- With most PC’s, you can keep pressing F12 on your keyboard repeatedly right after you power on the PC, until you’re shown a boot menu. From there, you simply select the USB drive from the menu.
- On other PC’s, you might heave to set the USB drive in the BIOS setup.
Enter the BIOS setup screen by pressing one of the following repeatedly after you power on your computer - F1, F2, DEL, ESC, or F10
